The mega-millions jackpot is over a billion. I can’t even fathom that kind of money. Someone, against impossible odds, is going to win it. This week, next week, next month … at some point … someone, or a group of someones, will become very, very rich.
I see the billboards across town and daydream, just a little, about what I’d do if I won. Of course, you have to play to win, and I don’t play, but all that aside, I still think of what I’d do with a chunk of money, should I become suddenly rich, as unlikely as that would be.
My spouse and I have some small student loans, so they’d get paid off post-haste. We also have an 11-year-old car that we call Esmerelda. She’s been wonderful but gets cranky in cold weather. Since she isn’t as reliable as she used to be, she should probably be retired. I would want upgrade my wardrobe and buy some new socks. (With all few t-shirts and cold weather gear exceptions, most of my clothing is almost as old as our car). My spouse would probably want to move into a bigger apartment or house. Nothing crazy. Just middle-class dreams for middle-class people.
To be honest, I hope the jackpot is won by a pool of people. Maybe some custodians and secretaries in an office somewhere that got together and won a life-changing amount of money each. Or some maids and cook staff at a hotel. Or some waitresses and busboys. I would be very happy for them. I would hope they would use their money wisely.
Until then, I guess we can all dream a little about how we’d use the money.
Best of luck to those playing. I hope you win!
I'll be writing. Maybe someday, I'll get "discovered," and I, too, will make some serious money. Maybe. We all have our dreams.
Go forth and write!
